Nature Based Play

"Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children Play is serious learning. Play is really the work of childhood"

-Fred Rogers

Nature based play is all about letting children explore and experiment with their surroundings. We often think of play like Mr. Rogers says, unserious and undedicated, but if we look deeper we learn that through play children develop the necessary skills to grow and learn. Children become their own teachers in moments of play; changing the materials they use, creating new ways to do things, and learning to be flexible in every thing they accomplish. Nature based play allows children the freedom to learn risks and build on experiences created in a space dedicated to their development.

Studies have shown that children who engage in nature-based play are healthier, happier, and more creative. They develop better motor skills, are more confident, and have improved focus and academic performance. Moreover, playing in nature helps children build a strong connection to the environment, fostering a sense of responsibility and care for our planet.

Natures Nest Preschool aims to welcome children into environments built to their specifications and needs. We want all children to have a chance to grow with love, care, and dedication. Play looks different in a lot of our spaces and we will continue to make sure our quality experiences are always available for families to explore and learn more about.
